HISTORY & CURRENT STATUS

5 Point Church launched in September of 2004 with a core group of 40 people. The vision was to reach people with the love of Jesus and teach them how to love like Jesus. Thus the phrase "Reach and Teach" was born. They started in a local high school and there were 183 people in attendance on their first Sunday.

Through various missteps, the church quickly shrunk to 140 people over the next few weeks. That was the last time they experienced that kind of decline. For the last 16 years, 5 Point has been on a continual growth trajectory. The founding pastor, Dean Herman, has led the church since the beginning.

They have moved through three different buildings (each time outgrowing the previous venue) and have found their home in an 80,000 sq. ft. renovated Walmart since 2017. In the last few years, they have completed three expansion projects in that building to create space in their auditorium and children’s areas. What started as 40 people in 2004 has grown to over 3,000 in weekly attendance in their 21,000 person hometown of Easley, SC.

Being in a global pandemic has come with its own challenges, but they have seen so much fruit in the midst of the chaos. Giving has increased and their exposure in the region has grown, as more people from outside their area have gotten involved. They continue to evolve as a staff and church to meet the new and ever-changing needs of the ministry in this season.



STUDENT MINISTRY APPROACH 

The Rebellion is the student ministry of 5 Point Church, and it is of high importance to the leadership and adults of this church. With a robust small group structure involving 60+ leaders and an average weekly attendance of over 200 junior high - high school students, the Rebellion's secret sauce is found in their value for small groups known as "Squads."

Over the course of the month, students gather for worship and large group teaching on a rotation that allows for age-specific ministry--junior high and high school, respectively. However, what remains consistent is students meeting in their squads every single week. This approach to discipling and shepherding students can best be understood as each small group leader truly caring and shepherding their small group. The healthy ownership and buy-in from volunteers have contributed to the momentum this student ministry has carried--even throughout the global pandemic.

POSITION PROFILE

Full-Time Position: Student Pastor

Position Summary

The Student Pastor will work under the Executive Director of Ministries and be responsible for the development and management of all aspects of the student ministries which includes High School and Middle School Ministries (The Rebellion Student Ministry).

Position Responsibilities

Essential Functions:


  • Manage and provide pastoral oversight for the Rebellion Student Ministries
  • Working under the direction of the Executive Director of Ministry and the Senior Leadership team, responsible for the development of ministry vision that is in alignment with church initiatives and culture.
  • Provide supervision and management of Student Ministries staff (Currently Rebellion Coordinator) and leaders in cooperation with church systems and values
  • Act as liaison between Senior Leadership Team and the Student Ministry to support seamless communication of church-wide initiatives and ministry information
  • Responsible to provide pastoral care for all ministry leaders and students:
  • Recruit, train, and equip leaders for service in ministry
  • Continue with or develop and implement leader training, specific to ministry that is in alignment with church culture
  • Continue with or develop and implement a system for discipleship of leaders that includes oversight of ministry team participation in church-wide discipleship and training classes as well as a strategy that supports leader promotion and advancement
  • Continue with or develop and maintain a system for scheduling and follow up with volunteers as needed for all required church functions
  • Provide or arrange for personal shepherding and care for all leaders and volunteers, as applicable
  • Responsible to provide a plan for consistent communication to ministry teams and leaders to ensure that team is aligned and unified
  • Provide or arrange a system for personal shepherding and care of all students, ensuring that all leaders who have access to or interact with students are appropriately trained per child safety guidelines
  • Develop and maintain a system for welcoming new students and families
  • Develop and maintain a system for tracking and follow up of absentee students
  • Provide spiritual counseling support for students and families as needed or requested by Senior Pastors
  • Manage alongside Rebellion Coordinator, all aspects of administration and operations for Student Ministry
  • Manage ministry calendar in coordination with the church calendar
  • Create and maintain a system for the creation and planning of all aspects of curriculum and discipleship training for students
  • Work with the Finance Manager and Executive Pastoral staff to develop and manage ministry budget
  • Establish annual goals for ongoing growth and development of ministry that is in alignment with overall church goals and initiatives
  • Implement a plan for marketing and promotion of ministry and events in cooperation with the Creative Arts Department director, guidelines, and timelines
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate data and group communication through Fellowship One platform in accordance with church guidelines
  • Responsible for generating reporting on ministry metrics as requested by Executive Pastoral staff
  • Plan, and execute weekly classes or ministry events in cooperation with church processes and systems
  • Responsible to oversee curriculum or teaching content that is in alignment with overall church doctrines and initiatives
  • Maintain ministry classrooms, supplies, and equipment
  • Implement a plan for ongoing communication within the ministry to maintain healthy connections between team members and students and families
  • Plan and execute annual events such as Summer Camp, Winter Camp, and monthly activities
  • Maintain ongoing communication with other local church student ministry teams and local high school campus ministry groups to promote citywide unity and collaboration

  • Must be computer literate with knowledge in all Microsoft Office software
  • Self-starter able to complete projects with excellence, in a timely manner

  • Ability to manage and facilitate necessary classes, programs, and events
