Job description

LEGACY STORY

Legacy Bible Church is a community desiring to live out the Gospel. At the heart of everything they do as a church, they intend to be GOSPEL-CENTERED. And because Legacy believes this Gospel is their only hope, they want to see every member of their family EMBRACE the Gospel, EMBODY the Gospel, ENTRUST the Gospel and ENGAGE the culture with the Gospel. These aims comprise their discipleship process for the church, as well as their church’s vision. The Gospel is the motivation for all they do!

Legacy Bible Church began in 2000 as a small group of believers meeting in a home, desiring biblical teaching and authentic community. Increasing in number, they quickly relocated to an aircraft hangar, and then a local school gym. As the church and staff continued to grow, Legacy moved into its first permanent facility in 2012, debt free. With over 29 acres, there is space available to accommodate the growing body, now averaging 750 attending worship services weekly.

Legacy is growing. The average annual growth rate is about 20%. On top of that, the Sherman/Denison area is projected to have incredible growth in the near future, due to a number of multinational corporations making this area their strategic base of operations. Therefore, Legacy is seeking the team and structure that will best serve the church body of today and tomorrow.

STUDENT MINISTRY

Wednesday evenings is a highlight of the week for many middle and high school aged students in the Denison/Sherman area. Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) teens engage in relationship, games, worship, messages and small groups during the midweek evening programming.

Middle and High School students are involved in the life of Legacy Bible not only in their Wednesday evening programming but in volunteer capacities throughout the ministry year. Many serve in the Children's Ministry offerings (Sunday mornings, VBS, etc.) whereas others use their musical gifts, tech skills or other talents to serve the church and the greater community.

PRETEEN MINISTRY

The Children's Ministry at Legacy is growing... and thriving... and did I mention, growing? The church is consistently welcoming new young families which is creating unique challenges as leadership navigates space issues. One ministry where the growth is evident is with the pre-teen students (grades 4-5).

The Children's ministry has a combined group time each Sunday where all elementary age students gather. Following the large-group time the 4th and 5th grade (Pre-Teen) have their own breakout where they go deeper in relationship and explore God's Word together.

Job requirements

CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY

Legacy Bible Church has the opportunity to impact the surrounding area for decades to come. Due to the steady and consistent growth coming to the area, the lay elders and lead pastor recognize the continued needs of shepherding and mentoring the growing body of believers and supporting the staff members as their ministries also grow and develop. The new Middle School and Pre-Teen Pastor will play a key role moving forward.

The following are some of the challenges and opportunities ahead.

SCALABLE VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP

As Legacy Students continues to grow, it is imperative that the new Pastor/Director continues the ministry structure that is scalable to grow with the church. This primarily happens through the recruitment, training and sustaining of the leadership team. Legacy Bible has a solid group of volunteers who seek to be equipped with the effective tools and methods to meet students where they are, partner with parents through the teen years and equip students to love Jesus and others well.

Because of the size, scope and growth of Legacy Students it is imperative that the new Director come in with the knowledge that a good portion of his time will be spent with the adult population in student ministry. Time with students is always desired, but the realistic expectation for this new hire is that he will equip and empower leaders for relational ministry with preteen (grades 4 & 5) and middle school (grades 6-8) students.

CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT

The programmed gatherings are in need of some vibrant energy and creativity. Whether up-front ice-breakers, media presentations or all-play situations, it is the hope of the team that the new Pastor/Director bring a fresh perspective for programming that engages both those who call Legacy home and unchurched friends attending.

The new Director will do well to bring a mindset that promotes variety in weekly programming so that no-two weekly programmed times look exactly the same.

TEAM PLAY AND TEAM PLAYER

Legacy Bible Church is a fun environment with many rewards-- however it is a driven environment as well. The new leader should come in ready to laugh, but also equipped and driven to work. The Legacy Bible Church Next Gen Ministry team does much in collaboration, therefore they seek to overlap their work schedules so that much of their in-office times are shared and community can be built.

SOLID FOUNDATION

Both the Pre-Teen and Middle School Ministry have a solid foundation to build upon. The new Pastor/Director will be charged with the opportunity to build upon this foundation and continue to relationally invest in leaders, families and students to continue building a culture that is both invitational and biblically relevant.
