Metro Community Church - NextGen Central Director/Pastor

Job description

Metro Community Church is 100% dedicated to reaching people who are far from being connected to a Christ-centered family of faith. Their energizing and engaging array of ministries draw people together in powerful ways that point to God and life-changing truth in authentic community. The pastoral leadership sets the ministry pace by example, making sure to model healthy physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual disciplines. Metro knows why it’s on this planet as a church and its drawing in people every week who are looking for life to the full. They need a NextGen Central Director/Pastor who has a strong track record of strategically building ministry that multiplies kids, students, families, young adults and leaders as followers of Christ.

Church Description

Metro Community Church began as a dream in the heart of its founding pastor, Paul Westbrook, long before he and his family transplanted to southern Illinois. His vision was to establish a church for anyone searching for truth and a vibrant faith community. In 1991, with no building, no budget, but with a clear sense of God’s direction and calling, several families started meeting in a basement. They made 20,000 phone calls, invited 1,500 people who expressed interest in attending their first Easter service, and the rest is history!

Fast-forward 30 years. Today, over 1,600 people actively participate in Metro Community Church each week across three locations. The main campus in Edwardsville averages 1000 people per weekend, including 321 children and students. The Vandalia Campus is a 200-person congregation that meets in a local school with a children’s ministry of 75 kids. In 2021, Metro launched its first microsite that's now gaining momentum in nearby Troy, IL. Metro’s worship, teaching, community life, unwavering mission, and staff/volunteer leadership keeps moving people closer to God, each other and the disconnected in powerful ways. This vibrant hub of Christ-centered ministry is eager to bring on a Central NextGen Pastor who is a relational leader-of-leaders that can bring vision, strategy, and alignment to the children’s and student ministries across Metro.

Position Description

With a large ministry scope and responsibility, the NextGen Central Director/Pastor will need to have a “can-do” and “get it done” attitude. The ideal candidate needs to be driven and at times hands-on, but know when to lead the team from the sidelines as a coach. With several young leaders on this team, they will need to lead by example and have the ability to cast a compelling vision for the Children’s and Student Ministries.

Specifically, the NextGen Central Director/Pastor at Metro will work alongside the Director of Operations and all Campus Pastors in carrying out the vision for the Next Generation Ministries (Pre-School, Children’s, Middle School, High School) at Metro. The NextGen Central Director/Pastor will also collaborate to execute high quality, engaging and coherent services and small groups reflective of Metro’s core values, community and context. Whoever steps into this new role will be responsible for leadership and oversight of staff to lead, equip and build leaders and teams across all campuses.
