Church Description

New Beginnings Community Church (NBCC) is a group of people on a journey with Jesus. Located in the Bay Area of California, the church was founded in 2014 with a group of about 750 people who represented a variety of ages, stages, statuses, ethnicities, and cultures. They believe that the diversity of their church reflects the truth that God loves all people. The pastors carry with them a deep commitment to being a church that reflects God's heart for all. NBCC was born out of a desire to join this value with a passion for excellence that embraces big dreams.

Position Description

New Beginnings Community Church is looking for a uniquely-gifted, strategic leader who will champion their diverse community and its distinctive expression. The next Worship Director is an inspiring, pastoral people-leader who loves being around people and leading them. On the platform, the next Worship Director is a gifted vocalist and speaks the language of musicians. They have experience in a variety of musical styles and genres and are comfortable weaving them together into one experience. Off the platform, the next leader champions the church's vision and mission. They think outside the box and bring new ideas and perspectives to the table. The Worship Director will have the primary responsibility of leading a large, diverse, and growing church in musical worship on a weekly basis in a way that inspires people of every age and stage, culture and class, of different faith backgrounds but with some church experience.

Worship Director candidates who bring strong skillsets in leadership, team-building, volunteer development, and the creative arts are highly desired, and the role will be shaped to unique skillsets. All candidates must have a strong commitment to Jesus and to personal growth and learning.

Requirements

The Worship Director will have the primary responsibility of leading a large, diverse, and growing church in musical worship on a weekly basis in a way that inspires people of every age and stage, culture and class, of different faith backgrounds but with some church experience. Our guests, occasional attenders and regular attenders are often disconnected from God because of church hurt or life and may require space to simply be. Worship Director Candidates who bring strong skillsets in leadership, team-building, volunteer development, and the creative arts are highly desired, and the role will be shaped to unique skillsets. All candidates must have a strong commitment to Jesus and to personal growth and learning.

Anticipated Responsibilities:



  • Be a permanent student and learner of NBCC’s culture, vision and values.
  • Seize and create opportunities to consistently communicate Vision and Values with teams.
  • Design and lead Worship for our Gatherings (which can include dance, spoken word, art) - incorporating pre-worship planning, appropriate rehearsal and improvement opportunities. This person should be wholeheartedly committed to leading our weekend Worship Gatherings and occasionally during the week through diverse up-front teams (reflecting the diversity of our community), while communicating in ways that are accessible to unchurched participants.
  • As a part of a collaborative leadership team, create special Gathering experiences at Easter and Christmas, which help NBCC to make the most of these significant seasonal outreach opportunities.
  • Song selection - may include songs written by team members; but should often involve – a collaborative approach that utilizes other teams in shaping a blend of new songs (primarily contemporary christian and gospel). Additionally, there should be a commitment to experimenting with other music genres while rotating familiar songs to engage all ethnicities and generations, creating a meaningful expression of worship for a diverse congregation.
  • Be a strategic leader and implementer of the vision for Worship Arts in a multicampus context, including online and in-person Gatherings. Lead a department that includes multiple worship teams and oversight of technical production (audio, video, lighting, production tech).
  • Advance the recruitment, development, training and care for volunteers and other team members (including youth) in the Worship Arts Department with a multi-campus strategy as the focus for our direction. Build teams that reflect the diversity of the overall church community (ethnic, generational, socioeconomic), which is especially critical in highly visible teams (e.g. the worship team).
  • Timely and accurate execution of the administrative responsibilities associated with successfully leading in this role. Examples of these responsibilities are budget administration and check request processing (reimbursements, honorariums, stipends, payroll), securing rehearsal space and scheduling rehearsals.
  • Schedule praise team vocalists and musicians.
  • Audition new praise team vocalists and musicians.
  • Facilitate the scheduling of guest vocalists/musicians for Worship Gatherings.
  • Procure music support for the Senior Pastor at special invitational events.
  • Procure music support for funerals/memorials for church partners/family members.
  • Support church-wide requests/events that can extend into the week and at times later into the evening.
  • Fully participate and contribute to NBCC meetings (staff, team, worship, creative, 1-on-1, other).
  • We are very interested in candidates who have:



  • Minimum three years of ministry experience leading worship.
  • A character that is Humble, Hungry, and Smart.
  • Ability to understand transitions - seamlessly creating a story arc and developing worshipful moments in a Gathering
  • Outstanding vocal abilities (instrumental proficiency a plus)
  • Experience building and managing diverse volunteer teams, and prior experience with supervision, personnel management, and team leadership.
  • A servant’s heart (pastoral) with an ability to care for others, especially those who feel far from God.
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience with vocal praise teams, including but not limited to audition and selection, scheduling, providing music charts and rehearsal recordings, teaching vocal parts and running productive rehearsals.
  • Prior creative arts background, including experience designing and executing special events (Christmas, Easter, etc.), building a creative arts team that assists in producing events that may include drama, dance, kids choir, adult choir, orchestra, special media, special decorations and/or environments, etc.
  • Strong desire to work in a highly creative and collaborative ministry environment
  • Reporting Structure:

    The Worship Director will have a “solid line” report to the Executive Pastor for day-to-day development and the practical application of vision and values and a “dotted line” report to the Senior Pastor for overall spiritual growth.
