Job description

The Youth Pastor at Pine Island Baptist Church (PIBC) is responsible for the overall educational and activities ministry of grades six through twelve to promote evangelism and discipleship by planning, promoting, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating the youth activities of the church. Additionally, he is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the Biblical revelations, to implement planning the administrative aspects of Youth Ministry and services to the church and community.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Gifted and called to youth ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level.
  • Prior professional leadership experience in a growing youth ministry.
  • An engaging teacher, with a strong biblical and theological background, who is in agreement with Pine Island Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith.
  • Organized, prepared, punctual, proactive, self-starter with a positive attitude.
  • Possesses a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field, experience in youth ministry, basic administrative skills, and a personal spiritual life congruent with biblical mandates for leaders (1 Timothy 3:1-7).
  • Prior professional leadership experience in a growing youth ministry.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision; flexible to changes in procedures and/or direction.
  • A leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, possessing relational skills with youth, parents, and staff.
  • Possesses qualities in line with the teen ministry; for example, has a sense of humor, energetic, and authentic.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Possesses strong computer skills & familiarity with social media tools and their use for ministering to youth.
  • Lead staff efforts to maintain the youth ministry social media presence i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Fulfill all duties of the Youth Pastor while submitting to the leadership of the Senior Pastor.
  2. Provide leadership to our overall youth ministry, including the accomplishment of all PIBC goals and objectives.
  3. Develop a clear vision for the youth ministry here at PIBC, including spiritual and ministerial goals as well as trips to be taken by the youth group.
  4. Teach Sunday school for the youth from the current curriculum as selected by PIBC.
  5. Develop a teaching series for Wednesday nights that can be studied and comprehended by the youth.
  6. Maintain a close working relationship with the public and private schools of our community with the goal of making connections with students from our schools, drawing them into the fellowship of our church and into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  7. Facilitate the training and mobilizing of our youth to develop relationships with the un-churched, to actively witness to persons within the sphere of their influence, and to make Christlike disciples of those responding to their witness.
  8. Collaborate with the church’s staff and members in the creation of new ministries as needed to accomplish the vision and mission of the church.
  9. Make and maintain positive relationships with leaders in the community, especially those leaders of our schools and other youth organizations.
  10. Establish strong relationships with the youth of our church, maximizing ministry impact in their lives.
  11. Provide counseling and spiritual direction to youth on an individual basis
  12. Maintain open communication with church staff, parents, youth, and members of the congregation.
  13. Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
  14. Prepare, monitor, and control the annual youth budget as approved by the church.
  15. Manage student fees and fundraising money for events and ministry/mission trips.
  16. Participate in staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with the Senior Pastor, PIBC Council meetings, and other meetings necessary to lead an effective youth ministry. Shall also be in participatory attendance of the regular and special services of the church.
  17. Support parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles, in concert with other pastoral staff.
  18. Adequate planning and preparation for all services, meetings, and activities must be done so that each event will be effective in accomplishing its stated purpose.
  19. Other duties as required.
