Riverbend Church - Executive Family Pastor - Austin, TX

Job description

Riverbend Church is a grace-filled non-denominational community in Austin, Texas with roughly 1,800 (pre-COVID) meeting on one beautiful campus. They highly value creativity, community, and truly meeting people where they're at. Riverbend exists to serve the bruised, battered, broken, and bored, and they are a church that prides themselves in making those who are far from God feel welcome. They are looking for an experienced pastor to bring strategy and oversight over the ministry to the entire family (birth-parents). With a seat at the executive leadership table, this is a high-powered role that can make a huge difference in this community.

Stepping onto Riverbend's campus, you are immediately struck by the beauty of the setting and the warmth of the people. Riverbend welcomes everyone, regardless of where they are in their life or faith journey, and it immediately sets you at ease as you settle into a seat in their gorgeous auditorium. The creativity and artistic nature of the church culture is seen at every turn, and it's hard to leave without feeling inspired in some way.

The Executive Family Pastor will bring a holistic vision and strategy to reaching the entire family (from birth-adults). This role has a seat at the Executive Leadership table, and will help shape the overall ministry direction of the church. There is a great foundation of bought-in members and staff to work with, and plenty of freedom to build something brand new at Riverbend. The church highly values innovation and that's what they're looking for from the Family Pastor.

This position oversees the staff and programs for kids, students, and adults. This includes weekend experiences and classes, as well as groups and events that may take place mid-week. The Family Pastor is tasked with developing and implementing a holistic approach to meeting the spiritual needs of the entire family. There is a dedicated core of staff and volunteers waiting and ready to fall under the fresh vision and leadership of a new pastor in what is a previously nonexistent role. Here's a snapshot of the current situation:

  • Kids and students have an amazing facility and are well resourced to explode with growth
  • The kids ministry is well staffed, using Orange curriculum, and simply looking for a coach to come alongside and further equip them for ministry
  • The student ministry is a total rebuild, being held up right now by an interim pastor and a young associate. Riverbend is also currently searching for a new, more experienced Student Pastor
  • Ministry to parents/adults is presently a handful of adult Sunday School classes (generally broken up by age) that provide both discipleship and fellowship
  • The overall spiritual development process for adults/parents is currently under-developed, and this position will have a great deal of freedom in helping chart that course
  • The current Executive Leadership Team works very collaboratively on the overall direction of the church. This position will be the fourth seat at that table and will quickly assimilate into this group of passionate and capable leaders
  • The Executive Family Pastor will be tasked with building and overseeing all ministry that happens outside of the main worship experience

  • The Position - What we are looking for:

We are looking for a pastor to pastors who can lead both the staff and volunteers well, cast a compelling vision, and embody the culture and values of Riverbend.

  • A track record of healthy team building, recruiting, staff development, and overall leadership
  • Passion for the broken and a willingness to engage with people no matter where they're at in their faith journey
  • An innovative spirit ready to chart a new course in how to minister to the needs of the entire family
  • The ability to respond with grace in the messy and "gray" areas of life by welcoming those who think/live/believe differently than you
